international justice mission (IJM)
we began the day with information about the IJM and our role with them.
International Justice Mission is a human rights agency that secures justice for victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of violent oppression. IJM lawyers, investigators and aftercare professionals work with local officials to ensure immediate victim rescue and aftercare, to prosecute perpetrators and to promote functioning public justice systems.
we would be:
- raising awareness and getting signatures for renewing the trafficked victims protection act (TVPA)
- setting up meetings with legislators and senators asking to support the renewal of the TVPA
- meeting with pastors to get them to sign a letter saying that they want to partner with IJM
men against the trafficking of others (MATTOO)
the next aspect of our internship is to spread the word about MATTOO‘s event in august and get men to attend the event.
hope fair (no acronym)
lastly, we’re having an information session at the hope fair at the end of july. to follow what they’re doing this summer, follow a fellow NYCUP-er’s blog. (:
The vision of the Hope Fair is, through the light and love of Jesus Christ, to bring hope and restoration to communities of New York City. We seek to use a holistic ministry approach to renew minds, bodies, and spirits by providing access to physical and spiritual resources.
